Overview
この度The Whiteでは、ホンダチヒロとモーリーン ミューズによるコラボレーション展「Body」を開催いたします。
本展は、The Whiteを主宰する写真家・澤田育久が継続してきた「海外作家との協働」をさらに深化・拡張させる試みとして企画されました。今回、澤田は作家同士を繋ぐ「ハブ」として機能します。異なる文脈にありながら、空間への意識や土地の記憶への興味を共有する二人の作家を引き合わせることで、表現の新たな視座を獲得し、作家活動を有機的に活性化させることを企図しています。
ホンダとミューズ、両名の作品はいずれも制作プロセスを重視し、ミニマルかつ詩的な空間構成を特徴としています。ホンダは、体内のチタンを起点に、素材と身体、構造と意識の関係を探究しています。金属を自己と世界の境界を揺らがせる媒介と捉え、重力や均衡のわずかなズレから生じる空間の変化を、配置や構造の調整を通して捉えています。主に金属を用い、空間を一つの構造体として立ち上げることで、完成形にとどまらない、知覚や意識のあり方を開く枠組みを提示します。対してミューズは、言語やイメージに固定された物語(ナラティブ)が変容し、再想像される過程を探求しています。2025年4月の個展「Iva Toguri D’Aquino」では「時間」をメディウムとして用い、特定の人物の足跡を通じて歴史を捉え直すことで、既存の枠組みから物語を解放する試みを行いました。
本展では、素材の均衡から意識の枠組みを問うホンダと、対象を深く掘り下げ歴史を再解釈するミューズという、対照的なアプローチが交差します。文化的背景の異なる二つの視点が、共感と違和の双方を柔軟に取り込みながら、新たな物語を紡ぎ出すプロセスをぜひご高覧ください。
Biography
ホンダチヒロ
ホンダチヒロは、金属を主な素材として立体作品やインスタレーションを制作するアーティストである。日常生活の中で目に留まる風景や、ものと空間の関係を観察し、そこで生じる感覚を作品として形にしてきた。背骨にチタンが埋め込まれているという自身の経験から、金属を、身体の内と外をつなぐ媒介であり、自己と世界の境界に関わる素材として扱っている。近作《New City》は、タイ滞在中に街を歩き、環境のリズムや土地の癖を観察した経験をもとに制作された。都市の一部を再現するのではなく、街を歩く中で感じた「ズレ」や「気配」を、空間として提示する作品である。主な個展に、New City（Soko／バンコク、2025）、Time, River, Bridge（MIKAWA SOTO／京都、2025）、cell（STUDIO STAFF ONLY／東京、2024）、The Island（The White／東京、2023）、When Where（CAGE GALLERY／東京、2023）、Kukei no Ku-do（The White／東京、2020）などがある。
モーリーン・ミューズ
モーリーン・ミューズ（アメリカ）は、メキシコシティに拠点を置くアーティスト/映像作家である。Parsons The New School for Design、l'École des Arts Décoratifs、LAV: Laboratorio AudioVisualで写真と映画制作を学んだのち、2022年から2025年まで、マドリッドにある プロジェクトスペース「ラ・パペルリア」の共同ディレクターを務めた。その実践はサイトスペシフィックなメソッドに基づいており、その場で利用可能なものを素材とし、再利用や近接性を拠り所とする中で作品を立ち上げてきた。そうした取り組みによって、展示そのものが作品の枠組みとなり、空間的・時間的・物語的なプロセスとなり、そこから物語を再生成していく試みである。Overview
The White is pleased to present "Body" a collaborative exhibition by Honda Chihiro, based in Kyoto, and Maureen Muse, based in Mexico City.This exhibition has been conceived as an initiative to further deepen and expand the "collaboration with international artists" that photographer Ikuhisa Sawada, founder of The White, has been pursuing. In this instance, Sawada functions as a "hub" connecting the artists. By bringing together two artists who, while operating in different contexts, share an awareness of space and an interest in the memory of place, the exhibition aims to acquire new perspectives in artistic expression and organically invigorate their artistic practices.
The works of both Honda and Muse prioritize the creative process and are characterized by minimal yet poetic spatial compositions. Honda explores the relationship between material and body, structure and consciousness, taking as a starting point the titanium inside her body. Viewing metal as a medium that blurs the boundary between self and world, she captures spatial transformations arising from subtle shifts in gravity and equilibrium through adjustments in arrangement and structure. Working primarily with metal and establishing space as a structural entity, she presents a framework that opens up modes of perception and consciousness, rather than resting on a finished form. Muse, on the other hand, explores the process by which narratives fixed in language and imagery are transformed and reimagined. In her April 2025 solo exhibition "Iva Toguri D'Aquino," she employed "time" as a medium, reexamining history through the traces of a specific individual, attempting to liberate narratives from existing frameworks.
This exhibition brings together the contrasting approaches of Honda, who questions frameworks of consciousness through the equilibrium of materials, and Muse, who reinterprets history through a deep investigation of her subjects. We invite you to witness the process by which two perspectives from different cultural backgrounds flexibly incorporate both empathy and dissonance to weave new narratives.
